Sun and Jupiter stand about ninety degrees apart today, a square, which astrologers read as friction between two ways of moving. Mars and Jupiter stand at nearly the same degree of the zodiac today, a conjunction, and their themes read as one. The Moon is in Aquarius, near its first quarter, climbing toward full.

What is a square in astrology?

A square is a ninety degree angle between two bodies, three signs apart, and it marks a place where two real needs cannot both be satisfied in the same move.

Squares connect signs that share a mode but nothing else: two cardinal signs, two fixed, or two mutable. They want the same kind of action for incompatible reasons, which is exactly what the tension is made of.

Older texts call squares malefic. A fairer description is that a square is where the growth and the cost live in the same place. It shows what a thing would take, in terms you would rather not have had spelled out.

Nothing about a square is a verdict, and none of it decides for you. It tells you a choice is on the table today and that making it on purpose beats letting it get made by default.
