What is an ingress?

An ingress is the moment a body crosses from one zodiac sign into the next, and it is the cleanest kind of change a daily sky can report.

Signs are thirty degree segments of the ecliptic, so an ingress happens whenever a body passes a thirty degree boundary. The Moon does this every two and a half days, the Sun once a month, and Saturn roughly once every two and a half years.

In the tropical zodiac those boundaries are fixed to the seasons: the Sun's ingress into Aries is the March equinox, into Cancer the June solstice, into Libra the September equinox, into Capricorn the December solstice.
