Venus enters Taurus today and begins a new chapter of its cycle there. Mars enters Virgo today and begins a new chapter of its cycle there. Venus and Mars stand about a hundred and twenty degrees apart today, a trine, traditionally read as the easiest of the major angles. The Moon is in Virgo, near its first quarter, climbing toward full.
Mars is the planet of drive: effort, appetite, competition and the honest form of anger that tells you a boundary was crossed.
It takes about two years to go round the zodiac, so it spends roughly six or seven weeks in a sign, and much longer where it is retrograde. It rules Aries and, in the classical scheme Undersky uses, Scorpio as well.
Older texts describe Mars in blunt terms, and the modern reading is more useful: it is the capacity to push, cut and finish, which is as necessary as it is easy to misfire. Where Mars is loud, the question is what you are aiming it at.
A Mars contact is a description of energy available, never a statement that a conflict is coming. What gets done with it is a choice.
